exercise, the zero excuses weight loss challenge

In Which The Weather Interferes With Fatso’s Plans

The weather here in Scotland is…

Well, it’s shockingly bad right now.

Earlier in the week we had really bad snow.

The first night it fell, I walked down in my new boots. I also found out that my new boots aren’t waterproof, and I had to buy a new pair of socks to work out in, because my boots and my socks and my everything were soaked through.

It was bad enough that when I was walking down to the Jock Stein to go to Zumba on Tuesday, boys threw snowballs at me. It missed, and I turned around and said to them, “My god, seriously? You can’t hit a target this wide?!”

When I got down to the Jock Stein Centre, the path between the pitches was a sheet of ice, and I had to walk on the grass. I almost fell over a good couple of times, and had to hold onto the rails when I got to them.

Wednesday, the snow started to clear up, and by this morning it had all but disappeared.

To be replaced by almost gale-force or hurricane-force (I can’t remember which) winds.

Schools are closed. Businesses in town shut early. Double-decker buses were pulled off their routes for fear they’d topple over.

Both The Water Palace and The Jock Stein Centre are closed.

What am I gonna do?!

I’ll tell you what I did. I pulled up my “Walk Away The Pounds” playlist (that’s what I’ve called it, anyway. 25 minutes of tracks that I walk on the spot or dance to) and I worked out.

It wasn’t quite to the same intensity as I could work out in the gym – lack of treadmills or ellipticals or stationary bikes and lack of weights machines means I only had my kettlebells, my yoga mat and myself (and Rich’s video!) to work with, but I still got in a 35 minute workout, and I still sweated a little.

I’ll push myself a little harder tomorrow night to make up for tonight’s lack, but I’m pretty glad I got it done.

Even despite the weather’s attempts to throw off my plans.

Let's get social:

  1. And that’s how you get it done! I’m proud of you. Zero Excuses! I was at the TV show the Doctors today for a taping and we gave away Zero Scales to the audience! They loved them and it was nice having the Doctors recommend them as a great new tool for weight loss!

    1. I think they really are a great tool, and I'm not just saying that as a current spokesperson. 🙂 I'm going to weigh myself ONCE at the New Year with the "regular scale" part of The Zero Scale to get my weight, and then use the Zero Scale part for the rest of the year. I'll probably FORGET how much I weighed or how much I weigh, and I think that'll make all the difference in my weight loss journey next year.

I'll need to see if I can download the Doctors episodes, though – they don't air here as far as I'm aware, at least not on any channel I receive!
