Competition: FATGIRLslim’s DietBet

If you’ve never heard of DietBet, it’s a social dieting game, a “DietBet”, where people put money into a pot, attempt to lose 4% (or more) of their body weight in 28 days, and those who succeed in the end, split the pot among the winners!

Some statistics:

  • 85% of participants lose 4.5 lbs on average.
  • 32% of participants reach their target goal of 4% of their starting weight and end up “winning” their game and splitting the pot with the other winners (while losing over 8 lbs on average)
  • 100% of participants have fun!

I said in the vlog that I’d also talk a little about some things that are changing right now that are hopefully going to help me with my weight loss, which are obviously unique to me.

The main thing is that I’ve come off of Mirtazapine (which is, according to my therapist, “a drug [she] gives to [her] patients when [she] want[s] them to gain weight.” Apparently, it’s one of the worst psych-drugs in terms of increasing appetite and causing weight gain, as was evidenced when I switched to a smaller, apparently more potent dosage last year, and gained (I think), 9lbs, 5lbs, 3lbs, etc, one week after the other.

Another is that my Dad is hopefully going to be able to pick us up a couple of mountain bikes from Freegle, or one of the freebie sites, from a woman down in Langbank. Since my Mum isn’t too keen on riding bikes, Dad’ll take one, and I’ll get the other, and, assuming the bike can take my weight, I’ll be able to go out for a wee ride every day, and I’ll be able to go farther on a bike than I can on foot, because it’s a lot less strain on my spine/pelvis/hips than when I’m walking. I know that for a fact, because I wasn’t in that much pain when I did Spinning. (Except for my muscles. But that’s to be expected.)

Thirdly: I’ll probably be going back to Paleo/Primal. I’m totally sick of this sugar addiction and the hold it has over me. I’m going to hate the headaches and the cravings, but I know that I’ll feel better on the other side. It might just take me a week or two to get there. Luckily, I go shopping on Tuesday, so I can start a week before the competition does.
