In Which Fatso Talks Coats

It’s difficult, being a size 32 and trying to find a decent winter coat. I’ve lived in hoodies and sweaters for so long that I’ve almost just come to expect that I’m going to freeze to death every time time I step out of the door if I’m not warmed up.

Shopping in town is completely out of the question: did I mention that I’m a 32 (if I’m lucky)? Our Evans is roughly the floor size of the downstairs of my house. It’s not huge. With the advent of online shopping, it’s cheaper for me to pay to have things shipped to me, rather than go into Glasgow, or even into town(!).

Shopping online is much easier, anyway. Of course, shopping online presents the problem: I see so much stuff I want!

Online, there’s only one or two places I even entertain.

I’ve mentioned Simply Be before because I love them. About 50% of my clothes are from Simply Be.

And that’s where I’m looking for my thick winter coat this year. (Not just a shower-proof coat – I love my purple coat, but it’s got no thickness!)

The thing I love about Simply Be is the range of clothes. I’m looking at their ‘size 32′ only coats/jacket, and I’ve got 66 to choose from. Five of them go up to a size 34; three go up to a 36.

So what am I loving?

If it was available in my size, I’d die for this:

Joe Browns Ultimate Coat

Alas, the 32 is out of stock!

Luckily, there are amazing things like this:

Military Style Coat

And Military-style is totally in this year! (There’s also another, longer Military-style coat available, which is equally amazing, but doesn’t come in red!)

I think, in terms of colour, red’s always good for the winter – Santa, rosy red cheeks, robin red-breasts, the red of holly. I don’t care what fashion dictates! The bright red against the white of snow looks great. And Simply Be definitely have some great red coats, but they’ve got green and purple and pink and…

D’you know, I don’t even know what you’d call this in terms of colour, but I wish it was available in a size 32:

Joe Browns Awesome Coat

I would wear the hell out of that coat. It is, as the name suggest, awesome.

Even if you don’t really want a coat coat, there’s things like this:

Anna Scholz Cardi Coat

I’d buy that in a heartbeat! Wear it out or wear it around the house when you don’t wanna turn the heating on. You could wear it UNDER your coat, if you’ve got a coat that’s not quite heavy enough.

Denim jackets, even in winter? Hell yeah. Got ‘em covered:

Crop Denim Jacket

Wear this one with a long-sleeve t-shirt or a sweater-dress and a pair of leggings and you’re all set.

Denim Biker Jacket

This denim jacket with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt? Sweet. I’ve got a t-shirt that’d look fantastic under it!

Obviously, the ones I’ve mentioned are just the ones that I’ve liked. There are 111 coats and jackets on SimplyBe at the time of publishing. More than enough for everybody. :)

I mean, I might well be a size 32, but that doesn’t mean I’m gonna be stuck wearing hoodies and sweaters. I don’t have to be. I’ve got plenty of choice, after all, thanks to places like Simply Be.

Im hopless with jackets too. I spent like £80 one year on one and hardly wore it. It was just to bulky and heavy. Now i just wear tops and hoodies with a £5 rain mack on top, works for me :)

Hope you find something you like and get loads of wear out of it. The military red is nice.

I'm so sick of sixteen layers just to keep warm though, haha! I need something that I can toss on top of a t-shirt and scarf and be fine without freezing my butt off – it's not like I need more layers to make me look bigger than I already am, y'know?

I'm DYING to get that military one! It's gorgeous in red, isn't it? But the Joe Browns ones are SO unusual, too. I will, of course, post photos if/when I get 'em. :D
