In Which Fatso Gets Lazy

I didn’t go to the gym today.

I was totally and utterly lazy, I gotta admit.

I did go to Spinning, don’t worry.

And I’m joking about being lazy: I had to taxi into the Water Palace. I phoned it at 10.45am, and it didn’t get to my house until 5 or 10 past 11. Got to the Water Palace at 15 or 20 past.

The Spin Bikes were only just being put out. Class starts at 11.45am.

It SHOULD have been more than enough time to go on the elliptical for a little while, but I’m a bit of a pedant when it comes to getting “my bike” – and specific numbers. Some of the bikes are “evil”, and others aren’t.

(Same with lockers – although all lockers are created equal, I prefer the numbers 8 and 13, but locker #13 has a broken wrist strap, so I take #8 when possible. Otherwise, I take #1 or #9. I’m not going to go into reasons, because y’all will just think I’m nuts.)

The bikes are different.

I won’t take #8 or #13, because they are… COMPLETELY EVIL. #8 has a pedal that clicks. #13′s resistance mounts up too quickly.  #17 feels like it has about 5 turns of resistance on when there’s none.

The best bikes are #2 and #5. If I go into class and I have neither of these, I do my best to swap the bikes around so I have one of these bikes.

I feel a bit guilty, but then… I have a bike that allows me to turn the tension up as Stephanie says, and I don’t DIE while I’m doing it, so I don’t really feel that guilty after all.

When I got in today, it was all good.  #2 was in my usual spot, so I didn’t have to change anything. But the handlebars were stuck up past 9, and I had to unscrew them completely and then lean on the damn things, my entire upper body weight on the bars to get them to slide down so that I could put them at 7.

(This adjusts the height of the bars, and the slight distance away from you. When I started, I just put them at 9, and left them there, because I’m quite tall. Since I started going to other classes and doing pressups during Spin, I noticed that 9 was too high, and I couldn’t do them properly, so I moved it down to 8 – still too high – and then to 7, which is perfect at the moment. And then you can slide the handlebars back and forward, too, so they’re closer or further away. I used to put them as close as possible, but now they’re a little further away, and my belly isn’t jiggling into them every time I pedal. MUCH more comfortable.)

By the time I’d adjusted my bike, it was 25 past. Still 20 minutes. But I’d have to go throw my stuff in a locker, get a gym ticket, put my iPod armband on…

Yeah. Not gonna happen.

I got on my bike and pedalled for 20 minutes until Stephanie came in, instead.

It’s weird, though. My BodyMediaFIT doesn’t really seem to recognise when I’m doing lower body work. When I’m doing Zumba, it’s like, “HIGH INTENSITY WORKOUT, FUCK YEAH!” for 15 or more minutes of a 45-55 minute class, but during Spin, I’m lucky if I can get 2 minutes of High Intensity. And I’m pretty sure my body temperature’s higher during Spin. During Spin, I’ve got sweat running down my arms, for crying out loud. I don’t get that during Zumba.

(Maybe it’s all the bouncing during Zumba? I don’t use my upper body a lot during Spin – there’s two songs where we do press-ups, and maybe that’s where the High Intensity’s coming from there? I don’t know. What’s an MET with regards BodyMediaFIT? Anyone know?)

MOVING SWIFTLY ON:

Some new tracks in Stephanie’s class this morning – the only one I can remember is that she swapped out Black Eyed Pea’s Dirty Bit for a remix of P!nk’s Raise Your Glass. I love Raise Your Glass. When I was doing the redesign of the site, I listened to 7 songs on repeat: Lady Gaga’s Born This Way, The Edge of Glory, Judas, Hair, P!nk’s Raise Your Glass and Fucking Perfect, and Lady Gaga’s Yoü and I, in that order. On repeat. I had tunnel vision. It was amazing.

That’s also my workout mix at the moment. That’s what keeps me going on the elliptical.

I didn’t go the gym after Spinning this morning, either. I went to visit my little sister for a while; petted her cats as much as possible. Cornelius hugged my shoe.

Cornelius likes shooooooooooes.

And then I made up for not going on the elliptical by walking down to and around Asda. It took me 15 minutes to walk down to Asda, but it’s not a mile. It took me 15 minutes on the elliptical to go a mile on Friday. But it’s not a mile between my sister’s house and Asda.

See why I prefer being on elliptical?

Anyway, I’ve babbled on enough for today. My current calorie burn is 3126, and I’ve eaten about 350 so far. :| I didn’t have lunch when I was at Lorna’s, and forgot to take that banana she offered, because we got talking and didn’t stop.

Oh well. I’ll eat lots of fruit and make up for it.

Weigh-in’s tomorrow! I should be in the 25st range, if all goes according to plan. Which it should.

We’ll just have to wait and see. *grins*
